Trains running to, from and via Schiphol Airport will be running on an adjusted schedule due to work taking place on the tracks, according to NOS. The adjusted timetable will be in place until December 3, and will see parts of the track at the airport raised and overhead lines replaced.

No direct intercity trains between Amsterdam and Rotterdam on November 17 and 18

As a consequence of the work, there will be no direct trains between Amsterdam Central Station and Rotterdam Central Station during the weekend of November 17 and 18, according to NOS.

On December 3, there will also be disruption for those travelling to and from Schiphol airport to Leiden. During that day, there will be no trains between Schiphol and Leiden at all, with travellers needing to use a bus service to travel between the two instead.

Major refurbishment of Schiphol’s rail connections underway

The work is part of major renovations set to be unveiled in 2028. Over the coming weeks, the plan is to raise the tracks slightly so that there is no longer a height difference between the train doors and the platform.

As well as this, some parts of the overhead lines will be replaced above the tracks. ProRail, an organisation that is part of the government and is in charge of railway maintenance, has said that passengers could suffer from some dust and noise pollution because of the work, aside from the travel disruptions.

For more information on the disruptions, be sure to check the NS app.
