What is the best place to work? And where can you eat gluten-free? We speak Rebecca (29), who shares her favorite places in The Hague with us. She has now been living in The Hague for 8 years and comes to many places as a freelancer, so plenty of tips to share!
About Rebecca
“I’m in 2023 came to live in The Hague, so I have been living here for 8 years. I now live with my friend Ricardo and our daughter Julie in the Heesterbuurt. I am a freelance copywriter and I also guide entrepreneurs by helping and supporting them with questions, choices and doubts.”

Favorite workplace
“Currently I like working in the Central Library at the Spui. Here I am in the café downstairs, where many other freelancers also work and they have delicious coffee. In addition, I often sit on the first floor in the library with a view of the Spui. I love to look at the hustle and bustle on the Spui and to think. You can also often find me at Anne & Max or Dudok.”

Best food
“I have to eat gluten free due to an autoimmune disease so unfortunately I can’t eat everywhere, but I discovered Queru in the Prinsestraat and that food is so ridiculously good! It’s Mexican food, but not that traditional. Now that I talk about it, I immediately feel like eating there again.”

Nice lunch spot
“For a nice lunch I usually go to Jamey Bennett or the Bagels and Beans. Both located on the Place, which I think is a very nice part of The Hague with the terraces and the Hofvijver. If the weather is nice, I will of course sit outside!”

Together with the family
“We are always trying out new things and there is so much to do in The Hague! For example, one time we go to the forest, the other time to a playground or to the beach. We like the Zuiderstrand the best here, because there are not many tourists here, but mainly cozy Hagenezen.”

Tip for tourists
“Find the fun outside the center! There are such nice corners in the rest of the city. Grab the bike and go along the nice streets. Of course the Zeeheldenkwartier, but also the nice shops and coffee places in the Reinkenstraat and Fahrenheitstraat. There is a delicious Mexican Grill at the intersection of Laan van Meerdervoort/Goudenregenstraat. Emma’s court behind the Weimarstraat is also unique. And of course the beaches where you cannot park nearby: a good vibe anyway!”

Place to relax
“Not necessarily one place, but when I go to the city I always cycle a certain route and it always makes me happy. Put on some nice music and I am guaranteed to arrive happy at the destination. You pass so many cozy shops, coffee and lunch places. It is also a nice walking route by the way! I start at the Weimarstraat, across the Koningsplein, across the road to the Prins Hendrikstraat, to the Prins Hendrikplein. At the roundabout I take the first exit, then after a while I turn left into the Piet Heinstraat, to the Piet Heinplein, past the palace gardens, through the Prinsestraat to the Kerkplein. That is also my favorite thing about The Hague, I think. The Grote Kerk on the Kerkplein. You see it in so many beautiful places sticking out: love it! The same applies to the electricity factory, which you can also see through a view in many places, very special.”
