The municipality is again handing out free trees. Residents, businesses, sport clubs, schools and other organisations can apply for a tree. You can apply between 5 June and 31 July 2023.

Go to www.bomenvoordenhaag.nl (in Dutch) to apply for a tree. You will also find more information there about the campaign and the rules. The Duurzaam Den Haag foundation is organising the distribution of the trees. They will let you know whether you will get a tree. Residents of neighbourhoods with more concrete surfaces and fewer trees and green spaces, such as the Schilderswijk or Laakkwartier, will get priority when the municipality decides on the applications.

The municipality will deliver the trees in November and December this year. Afterwards you can plant the tree yourself.

Why is The Hague handing out trees?Trees make The Hague a healthy and pleasant city to live in. The city is growing, the climate is changing and the number of inhabitants is increasing. Trees provide shade in the heat and absorb (excess) rainwater. They also play a role in providing variety in plant and animal species in the city (biodiversity).

This is why the municipality is planting extra trees the coming years and is handing out free trees.
