The weather forecast looks good, so the ice cream season can begin! Everywhere we see ice cream parlors opening their doors, including Lust in the Hoekpolder. Cynthia Schmidt and Kim van Holsteijn, the owners of the popular ice cream parlor, have not been idle this winter: ‘We have even more flavors and it has become more child-friendly.’

In 2022 Cynthia and Kim opened their ice cream parlor for the first time: “A food truck in a green place”. Lust is therefore more than a stand where you can get an ice cream, you can now also order coffee and cake and there is plenty of room for the children to play.
Safe playground
“Last year we got to know a lot of nice people from the area”, says Cynthia. After the first successful year, the entrepreneurs saw room for improvement, such as a safe playground for young customers. “Last year, many parents indicated that the water in the area was a bit exciting. We are happy to invest in a new playground so that parents and children can enjoy an ice cream in a cozy and safe environment,” says Cynthia.
There is now a fence around the playing field, for children up to 4 years old, so that the children do not fall into the water. In the meadow there are walking bikes, a small trampoline, a sandbox with toys and a playhouse with a slide. There are also lounge areas for the parents and you can watch the farm animals on the other side of the fence.
New flavours
At Lust you can go for coffees and apple pie and Italian ice cream. Each week there are twelve different flavors of ice cream, four of which change each time. “If I change the other eight, we will get into a fight with the regulars,” Kim jokes. “Especially mango, chocolate (both vegan) and yoghurt amarene are favourites.”
The ice cream is made by Gebo Gelato from Oud Beijerland. “These ice makers have been around since 596 in the box. Twice a week they come by with their freshly twisted ice cream. The ice cream is traditionally made, when we visited the production location we saw the retired father of the current owner working on making new flavors, really cool to see. And he knew everything about the origin of all ingredients. They also work as sustainably as possible. This combination made us decide to buy from them.”

Have you worked up an appetite? Ice cream parlor Lust Hoekpolder is located at Molenwetering 4 in Rijswijk and is open every Saturday and Sunday from 20. until 20.05 hours open. The food truck is best reached by bike, by boat or SUP. You can also come by car, then you can park at the Van der Kooijweg, from there it is a four-minute walk.
