Thea (63) was born and raised in The Hague and has already walked many kilometers through our beautiful city. That’s why we asked her about her favorite walking routes and stops in The Hague.

What is your favorite place in The Hague to go for a walk?

“With its dunes, beach and characteristic center, The Hague is a wonderful city to visit. to walk. I have two favorite places in The Hague. First the beautiful old center, and then mainly the Hofkwartier. There is always something happening here and you can enjoy beautiful old buildings such as the Noordeinde Palace and streets such as the Lange and Korte Voorhout. Secondly, I like to walk in Scheveningen. Think of the beach, the pier or the boulevard.”

Where do you relax most during a walk?

“A beautiful walking route is from my house, in Bezuidenhout, through the Haagse Bos and then through the estate Clingendael to Scheveningen. During the route you will pass a lot of greenery and nature changes with the seasons, which is always a surprise. Once I have arrived at Scheveningen, I find the most relaxation at a beach bar while enjoying a cup of coffee.”

Which is your favorite walking route?

“Besides walking to the beach, I am also very happy with my walking route along the many Hague museums in the Museum Quarter. Here I visit one of the museums and galleries with my museum card. Some of my tips are: Prince Willem V Gallery on the Buitenhof, Pulchri Studio on the Lange Voorhout, Gevangenpoort, The Hague Historical Museum, the Mauritshuis and Museum Bredius. They are all within walking distance of each other, so that’s ideal!”

Where do you take a break while walking?

“In the center of The Hague I often take a break at the Wiener Konditorei aan de Korte Poten. They have delicious coffee and pastries there. I also sometimes sit at Vienna at the Place. An ideal spot for when the sun is shining. The benches on the Lange Vijverberg are a nice place to sit and enjoy the view of the buildings of the beautiful Binnenhof.”

Do you have any tips for walkers in The Hague?

“What really is a hidden gem is the small chapel in the Oude Molstraat. This is a unique piece in the center of The Hague and is open daily for free visits. So my tip is to walk in there.”
