After two years of searching, Rebecca from The Hague (200) and Ricardo (11) found this nice house in the Heesterbuurt. They enjoy living there together with their daughter Julie, aged 1 year and 2 months, and they have invited the neighborhood of The Hague to take a look inside:

Looking for two years

“We have this house in March 2023 and went to live there in August. We have been looking for a total of two years. At many houses we didn’t make it or we didn’t think it suited us anyway. We specifically looked for houses in this area, because we wanted to live a short distance from the beach and the city, get on our bike and go! We were also looking for a house with three bedrooms, a house for the future, where we can live longer.”

It’s just a very nice house and we are also proud that we were able to buy it after a long search. We feel at home here and it is an ideal place for Julie to grow up.

Ready to move in

“The house was immediately completely finished and ready to move in, which was a really big advantage for us. At first we thought a handy house would be nice, but then we found out that I was pregnant, so we are very happy that we didn’t buy a handy house!

We immediately noticed that the kitchen and bathroom are modern and that nothing needed to be changed. We actually only adapted the garden, painted some walls and invented and arranged the walk-in closet ourselves. Furthermore, we only had to move our stuff.”

Minimalist and natural materials

“You can’t really name our style. So much of the house was already like this when we moved in. It can be partly described as sleek, Scandinavian and minimalistic with many natural (wood) materials. If we were to furnish and design it from scratch, we would go for a slightly bolder interior. We mainly get inspiration from Instagram or via home furnishing store Sklum, they always have beautiful, atmospheric photos for inspiration.”

Most beautiful items

Rebecca: “For me personally, my locker means granny in the bedroom a lot. My grandmother taught me how to knit and it contained her knitting stuff. I took over the authentic box when she passed away. Julie’s chest of drawers also has a nice story. I, and even my mother, have lain on it! So I got it from my parents and will also go to my sister if she has a baby.”

Which place in the house do you visit most often?

“We figured that out pretty quickly, because that’s the bank! It is a nice, large sofa that fits enough people and you can lounge together in the corner. That’s where we go most often.

In winter we also like the bed because you look out on the garden and green tree. The garden is ideal for warm summer evenings. On such a warm evening we sit there in the hammock until late at night and we go stargazing!”

“We didn’t buy our furniture from one place. Our previous house consisted largely of Ikea furniture, but we wanted to get rid of that. The beautiful wallpaper in the children’s room comes from Pimpelmees and it is also a mix of everything. For example, the tabletop comes from one shop, and the legs from another shop. Our self-designed walk-in closet does come from Ikea, but we got the table chairs from an aunt a while back. We found most of it online or via Instagram.”

Heesterbuurt

“The house is located in the Heesterbuurt. The part where we live is a bit quieter, but a little further you have the beautiful Valkenboskade and we can walk to the Fahrenheitstraat with all the nice shops and lunchrooms. Now, in the spring, the trees are in bloom and the many playgrounds and petting zoo are ideal when we go out with our daughter.”
