A night train, which was on its way from Leiden to The Hague, collided with construction material and derailed as a result. The accident left one person dead and dozens of people injured, some seriously injured. Due to the accident, no trains will probably run between The Hague and Leiden all day.

At Voorschoten in the night from Monday 3 to Tuesday 4 April around 03.06 hours a passenger train derailed. There were about fifty people on the train, reports AD

No train traffic
Due to the accident, all train traffic around Leiden Central has come to a standstill, the NS said.

ProRail assumes that this will take a while , because after the investigation there is still a lot of work to get the train on the rails and to restore the track. That goes until sure 16. hours. Voorschoten station, which is close to the scene of the accident, has been closed and travelers are being transported by bus.

What happened:
How the accident with the train could have happened exactly is still unclear. We do know that in addition to the normal passenger train, there is also a freight train and a construction crane on the track, both of which are also involved in the accident.
The collision caused the front part of the train to end up in a meadow, the middle part lying on its side next to the track. Two wagons lie next to the rails. According to the NS spokesman, fire broke out in the rear part of the train. It has now been extinguished.
