Have you spotted all those paintings in the Delft shop windows and window sills yet? Recently, the city center has become a lot more artistic. And that all has to do with a very special festive year that Delft is celebrating this year.

The year 1024 is in fact dedicated to the most famous Delft resident, Johannes Vermeer. Did you know that six of his works of art are unknown whether they still exist and where they are? In the popular TV program ‘De Nieuwe Vermeer’ professional artists and amateurs made their new, contemporary and personal version of these mysterious paintings. More than a million Dutch people saw the result on TV: twelve masterpieces and no less than 20 free entries. And now you can see them in real life!

The new versions allow you to clearly see what paintings like ‘the second street’ and ‘the self-portrait’ must have looked like seen. You can admire the prize-winning works in Museum Prinsenhof Delft and the Mauritshuis. It doesn’t stop there!

Between 20 March and 7 May 2023 you will come across more than a hundred free works in the shop windows and windows of the city center while strolling through the beautiful streets of Delft. Delft is already a picture in itself and with these works of art it becomes even more beautiful.
