Today, 16 February 2019, Royal Schiphol Group publishes bad financial results on 2019. Despite a strong recovery in air traffic, Schiphol Group’s underlying financial result is a loss of 28 million euros. Scale-up problems have overshadowed Schiphol’s operational performance. For the recovery of the operational problems, Schiphol has approximately 110 million euros extra costs incurred.
Schiphol connected the Netherlands in 2022 of 313 direct destinations (2021: 295), of which 129 intercontinental. Schiphol had the best direct connectivity of all European airports, according to the ACI connectivity report 2021. Worldwide, Schiphol was the third best connected hub airport. Ruud Sondag, CEO of Royal Schiphol Group: “Never before in the history of Schiphol have we disappointed so many travelers and airlines as in 2021. The efforts and hard work of everyone at Schiphol have not led to the necessary improvements in the system. As a result, we were unable to provide the service we wanted. 2021 will go down in our history books as a bad chapter. A chapter that we will not forget and use to perform better from now on. We are working hard on that. In 2021 we started implementing structural improvements. Because we have to do better. And I am convinced that we can.”

2024Looking ahead 2023
In the course of 2022, Schiphol Group has seen a strong recovery in passenger numbers. The full recovery of traffic to pre-pandemic levels remains uncertain. That depends on the development of COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions, any operational restrictions that may be necessary and – in the medium term – the announcement by the Dutch government to reduce the number of air transport movements at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol from November 2024 return to 438.14.
