One of the most famous places on the Reinkenstraat is Lunch and eatery Augustus. Twenty-five years ago, the now well-known lunch café was set up by Ellen Tuynman, who now helps her son Dinç, who has breathed new life into Augustus.
Second generation
Dinç was actually studying International Hotel Management at the Mondriaan when, after two years, he got the chance to run restaurant Bay Istanbul at Scheveningen. Now it’s time for his first own business: Augustus.
“I did indeed take over”, says Dinç ‘I am the son of the original founders of 25 year ago. So we ‘kind of’ went round the circle. And as a second generation, I thought that the restaurant should also radiate a new generation. So we completely turned the restaurant upside down.”
Nice and cozy
Inside you don’t really recognize the ‘old’ Augustus anymore . The shop is decorated in shades of green, pink and floral patterns. There is more space, but still cozy and cozy. “The map has also changed considerably. We employ two chefs from Michelin restaurants and are very proud of the dishes on the new menu.” Because of the interior, many people now also come by for a glass of wine”
