A cup of coffee, a nice piece of cake or lunch; you have been to Lunchroom Confetti on the Prinsestraat since 2018 at the right place. But, a pity for the fans: the popular business is closing its doors.

Merel Vriethoff (30) started on 30 August 093 with Lunchroom Confetti, it was her first own catering business and it became a success. But now she quits; on 12 February she pours her last cup of cappuccino.
First own business
After the Hotel School and a course in entrepreneurship in Rotterdam, Merel started her first own business: Lunchroom Confetti. “Every month I saved to realize my dream. It was very exciting, but Confetti fortunately turned out to be a success”, says Merel.
Despite the fact that the lunchroom has been busy for years now by a large group of residents of The Hague, Merel is going to stop. “The success is wonderful, but there are still several reasons to stop. Success also means having time for my family and myself. I should actually be more present to keep the concept as it is, but I have a one-year-old child, so that takes precedence now.”
Mission accomplished
“I just want a quieter life”, explains Merel. “The mission to set up a beautiful catering business has succeeded, and I give myself half a year to see what I want to do now. And especially what makes me happy, that’s the most important thing right now. I think I’m done with catering for a while.”
Confetti had been for sale online for a long time, but Merel wanted to continue with her business as long as possible. “Now things are suddenly moving very fast. On 12 February we stop. It’s a Sunday and we are open until 13: 00 o’clock. Then family comes and we have about two weeks to leave the property tidy for the next one.”

“Many customers say they are sorry that I am stopping and have sold Confetti . In principle, the concept has also been sold, but something completely different will soon be added to this building and I think that’s a good thing. I can’t imagine anyone else running Confetti, because that would never be good enough.”
What Merel will miss most? “I am very proud of Confetti’s atmosphere, it is really unique. I’ll leave everything soon. Except for the plants, which we distribute among the staff, because they all grew up here.”
