Discover Vermeer’s Delft

How would the painter Johannes Vermeer have experienced the city of Delft? Which places did he often visit and what did people from his time eat? From 10 February to June 4 you can see Vermeer’s Delft in Museum Prinsenhof and admire the world of this famous painter and his contemporaries. You can see all their masterpieces alongside Delft pottery, Delft carpets, archives and ego documents. This will give you a good picture of the artistic, intellectual and social climate in Delft in the 18the century.

There are a lot of great activities around Vermeer in the coming months. Learn more about the painting master in museums, walk different routes through the city or participate in workshops and tastings. In short: discover Vermeer’s Delft.

Visit the exhibition Pearls of Light

Almost every Dutch person has heard of the Milkmaid and Girl with a Pearl Earring. These are some of Johannes Vermeer’s most famous paintings. What would that look like now? Perhaps like the photos of the Dutch Caroline Sikkenk that you see in the Oude Kerk.

For her exhibition Pearls of Light Caroline took inspiration from the work of Vermeer. She sought the stillness, the light and the timeless atmosphere at various historical locations in Vermeer’s birthplace and hometown of Delft. The end result, a new series of photos with inspiration from the originals, can be seen until 1 April in the Oude Kerk.
