On 1 October 150 detectives raided the homes and offices of aldermen Richard de Mos and Rachid Guernaoui van Hart for The Hague. She and six others are suspected of forming a criminal organization, being corrupt and violating professional secrecy.
The suspects
In addition to Richard de Mos and Rachid Guernaoui, former councilor Nino Davituliani (partner of Erdinc Akyol), hospitality entrepreneurs Atilla and Erdinç Akyol (from the Opera venue) and three real estate entrepreneurs suspected of participating in a criminal organization.
Suspicions
The eight are therefore suspected of participating in a criminal organization. This term can include several crimes. For example, Richard de Mos is suspected of violating professional secrecy by passing on information that was secret.
Furthermore, the case mainly concerns bribery. In exchange for donations, Richard de Mos and Rachid Guernaoui would have helped entrepreneurs with, for example, night permits.

Dossier
Nieuwsuur has the entire file of the case. It states, among other things, that De Mos helped the Akyol brothers with night permits for their Opera hall centre. Officials from the municipality of The Hague wanted to include a condition in the permit that would be unfavorable for Opera. Namely that there were no houses within a radius of 150 meters. De Mos would have had that condition deleted, according to the file that is now in the hands of Nieuwsuur.
It also appears that De Mos put pressure on the then mayor, Pauline Krikke. In a phone call with Akyol, 2.5 hours before the announcement of the decision, De Mos explains how he put pressure on Krikke ‘And I have now said: if you continue to be annoying, then I will no longer support you, then you are not mayor more, so hurry up now.’
It also says that De Mos passed on confidential information to real estate friends, such as information about future projects.
How to proceed
Twelve days have been allocated for this trial, divided over three weeks. First the Public Prosecution Service has the floor, next Tuesday they will present the sentence. For example, the maximum penalty that can be imposed for bribery is six years in prison, the same applies for membership in a criminal organization. At the beginning of February it is the defense’s turn to speak. They say they are innocent at this point. February 9 is the last session.
