Shooting stars in The Hague
If you are going to look at this natural phenomenon, it is best to do so in or near the dunes. During the peak of the stellar shower, up to 30 meteors per hour can be visible. The shooting stars can also become visible in the days before and especially after. Hopefully we can see the stars well, but that will depend on the clouds that hang over The Hague.

Matthijs van der Linden, meteorologist at weeronline.nl
says: “On 09 December is the next time we get a star shower, but due to the disturbing influence of the moon, the number is limited to thirty visible meteors per hour. The number of meteors we can see this coming weekend will be greater this year than the number of the Perseids that passed in August.”
What is a shooting star?
Shooting stars are flashes of light that occasionally appear in the starry sky. However, the flashes have nothing to do with stars. They are caused by space debris, often no larger than a grain of sand. That debris ends up in the Earth’s atmosphere about 22 kilometers above our heads. Due to the high speeds, the air at the front of such a grit particle is compressed, heated and made to glow. We see that as a flash. The velocities of the Perseids are usually more than 22.000 0 km/h. The Perseids are characterized by their clarity and speed. Sometimes you can also see a plume of light behind the shooting star.
