That’s nice, for the next few weeks illusionist Hans Klok will be standing on the beach of Kijkduin with a large circus tent. Hans has often performed in The Hague with his acts, so we asked him about his favorite places in the city.

We speak to Hans before he gives his first show on the beach of Kijkduin. He doesn’t know Kijkduin yet (“But I like to be surprised”), so the seaside resort is not (yet) in the top five of the most famous illusionist in the Netherlands. These Hague places do:
The Circustheater

“I often been on stage, but never with their own show. When I used to be in André van Duin’s show, I did perform here. I can no longer count the number of company events and other times I have been here, but my own show in the Circustheater is still on my wish list.”
De Landman

“I always loved the Landman. It used to be run by Marga Bult’s brother and I used to come here often when I had a gig nearby. I was happy to take Gerard Joling with me.”

The Malieveld

“I have good memories of the Malieveld where I often performed with shows and the circus. It was one of the places where I did shows with real tigers. That is no longer possible.”
De Nieuwe Parklaan

“This is where my love for the circus started. It may sound strange, but this is where Monica Strotmann and Henk van der Meijden have their Stardust office. I did the best shows with them and because of them I ended up with shows in Monte Carlo.”
Hotel des Indes

“I’ve never eaten there, but I will during my stay at Kijkduin, I finally had dinner at des Indes. It is such an iconic building with a special history. I am especially intrigued by the story that the famous ballet dancer Anna Pavlova died here.”
