Recently several regional media reports have placed over a possible four-day school week at a special education school in The Hague. Questions about this have now been asked by several parties from the Hague city council. The college wants to provide clarity as soon as possible. To do this, it will contact the school boards in The Hague. This is to gain insight into the magnitude of any problems just before the start of the new school year, what options are available to solve them and how the municipality can support them.

Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer: ”It has been all hands on deck for some time with regard to the staff shortage in education. School directors are faced with challenges every day to complete the schedules. Many measures are taken to ensure that every child can always be educated. The honest story is that the teacher shortage will not be solved overnight. But that is our joint priority. We already do a lot together with educational institutions, but the problem requires constant adjustment. This requires patience, measures from the government and our constant attention. In this, The Hague works together with other large cities where these problems are of the same magnitude. Together with the school boards in The Hague, we will continue to look at how we can support any problems with the scheduling of teachers. There are probably no easy solutions here, but sitting on our hands is certainly not an option.”Information The municipality wants to gain insight as soon as possible how big the possible problems are just before the start of the new school year, what possibilities there are to solve them and how the municipality can support this. That is why there is permanent contact with the school boards.
