The Aalsmeerbaan is available again from today for starting air traffic. After testing with the landing system next week, the runway is expected to be ready for landing traffic in good visibility. That is earlier than originally planned. In the coming period, tests will be carried out on the landing systems, so that the runway can then also be safely used as a landing runway again. Major maintenance has been carried out on the Aalsmeerbaan since the beginning of April, so that the runway is and remains in good condition.

During the maintenance period, the asphalt on most of the Aalsmeerbaan has been replaced. That is an area of no less than 50 football fields. 50 new LED lamps and 50 kilometers of cabling have been installed in the asphalt. The new asphalt has a total length of 17 kilometers of markings painted on the track. In addition, some of the rainwater wells and pipes around the track have been repaired, cleaned and replaced.

The work was carried out in collaboration with Heijmans. All these different activities were combined as efficiently as possible in the three months of major maintenance. By carrying out maintenance in this way, the track only needs to be taken out of use for a long period of time once every seven years. Every year, a runway is briefly taken out of use for regular maintenance.
