Want to make sure you’re ready for the end of the world? Then boy do we have the property for you! A 1960s bomb shelter in the Dutch capital has just gone on the market – but you’ll have to fork over a whopping 1,1 million euros if you want it to be yours.

Prepare for the zombie apocalypse and buy a bomb shelter!

You can make as many jokes as you like about the end of the world, but the reality is there are many out there who figure it’s best to be prepared for any eventuality. If you’re someone who finds yourself planning what household items you’d grab first in an emergency, or what supplies you’d stock a fallout shelter with, then this investment opportunity might be right up your alley.

Gino IJisberg bought the property on the Postjeskade in Amsterdam back in 2011 for just 15.000 euros. The then 22-year-old thought it was too good an opportunity to pass up: “Nobody wanted to buy it. I was young and I like history, so I dared to do it. When you are 22 and you can buy a bunker, that is very cool,” he told AT5

Now, 11 years later, IJisberg is ready to move on, and has put the bomb shelter up for sale. For the grand total of 1,1 million euros, you could be the proud owner of this plot, which includes the underground bunker and 70 square metres of land.

Interesting opportunity to invest in property in Amsterdam

Not only does this property offer an interesting investment opportunity and the chance for someone to develop their own building project, but it also has a pretty interesting history. The building initially started out as a sewage pumping station, but was converted by the municipality into a bunker in the 1960s.

It was designed to fit between 80 and 100 people – but luckily it was never used. “People should be able to stay here for a week, but I don’t think you can last a day here,” IJisberg says. He understands that it’s likely the new owner will demolish the existing shelter, but thinks it would make a nice music studio: “You can make noise there 24 / 7. If an artist builds their house next door, it would be perfect.”
