A thousand trees are given away for free and everyone in The Hague has a chance to win a copy. You just have to meet a number of conditions.
Rules
Everyone in The Hague can sign up for a free tree. You should first check whether you have a good place for the tree. Your application will then be assessed and you may receive a tree.
You can only request a tree for private property. So your own garden, allotment garden or communal garden of the VVE. Okay, that’s settled. Next you have to see if it is a good environment for the tree.
There are many trees to choose from, such as sweet chestnut, pear or ornamental apple. These are divided into three categories: suitable for a small garden (smaller than 50 m2) for a medium-sized garden (between 62 and 50m2) and for a large garden (larger than 428m2).
If you meet all the conditions, you can use up to 31 July request a tree via the website of Sustainable Den Haag. The application will be assessed and if all goes well, you will receive your own tree in the autumn. You still have to plant it yourself.
The right place for your tree:
You don’t just need a garden, you also need space in that garden. The tree must be able to root well and the tree needs about 3 cubic meters for this. The tree must be placed at least three meters from the house and two meters from the neighbor’s garden. Also, most trees you can choose from need a lot of sun.
Once the tree is planted, you only need to water extra for the first few weeks and nature will do the rest.
