The Municipality of The Hague has decided to sell ‘De Titan’, a multi-company building for innovative and creative companies in the Binckhaven, to the Unknown Group in The Hague. Coming autumn, the first tenants will move into the renovated building of such a 30.000 m2 in Saturnusstraat.

In 2018 the city council decided to transform the building in the Binckhorst. It became clear from discussions with various market parties that selling would lead to a more successful innovation concept than exploitation by the municipality. Particularly because more knowledge can be shared from the market, with appropriate support and a large network. That is why the college decided last year to sell the Titan. By drawing up specific criteria, the municipality has succeeded in guaranteeing its objectives, such as making agreements about affordable rents. The building will house approximately 30 business spaces, with a terrace at the front. Office space is available for growing companies. Starters find their place in smaller units and there will be space in the basement for manufacturing companies. The Titan is almost completely energy neutral, thanks to the connection to district heating and solar panels on the roof.

Unknown Group An independent assessment committee unanimously selected the plan of Unknown Group as the winner of the tender. The plan focuses on start-ups and scale-ups that work on sustainable innovations in the field of water, food, energy and climate. Unknown Group was founded by entrepreneurs from The Hague and has been focusing on the international world of innovative start-up companies for some time now.

Alderman Saskia Bruines: ”The plan of Unknown Group is a quality boost for the Binckhaven, an environment characterized by innovative creative companies that work for a better world . A valuable asset for entrepreneurship, talent and employment in The Hague.”The Hague as the place to be for innovative sustainable companiesDe Binckhorst will be transformed in the coming years into a mixed living, working and living environment. De Titaan is located next to the Caballero factory. The area is characterized as a creative breeding ground for innovative companies.

Alderman Bruines: “I am pleased that we have succeeded in realizing a location of this size. The pressure for sufficient space to do business is great in The Hague. For many companies it is difficult to find a place in. With the Titan, a lot of new space will become available for different types of activity.”Martin Luxembourg, director of Campus & Education from Unknown Group: “The Titan will become the hotspot for impact scale-ups in Europe and thus strengthens the ambition of The Hague as the #1 impact city. We look forward to a broad collaboration and invite everyone to help build innovations for a better world.”
