Love
The legend of the Water Giant goes like this: A penniless widow sent her beautiful daughter Nice fishing every day so as not to starve. The girl met a handsome boy during her fishing trips. He was cursed and could only live in the sea, until a girl fell in love with him.
The Water Giant drove a lot of fish to the net of Mooi and the other Scheveningers were jealous of that. So she spoke proudly about her ally. Everyone warned her that the Water Giant would drag her into the sea, but love overcame and they married. All their progeny were named Waterreus.

– near the Scheveningen lighthouse – owes its name to this beautiful story. For years the statue of the water giant stood on the roof of the beach club. But unfortunately it had to be removed due to new rules. After the renovation, the statue was given a special place in the wine cellar. You can now see him standing in the sand through a glass plate in the floor.
