Winning a million euros by ‘surviving’ for two months on a desert island, that is the concept of the new SBS program Million Dollar Island. If anyone can do that, it’s a Hagenaar.

The tough Melanie E. Rijkers from Scheveningen dares to take on the challenge and is one of a hundred participants.

The 55 year old Melanie is a burn out -recovery trainer and photo coach. She regularly hears people say: ‘I’m so stressed I have to at least go to a desert island to relax. She went to find out in the TV program Million Dollar Island, although the game program does not sound very relaxed.


A hundred people have been put on a desert island. They have to survive with minimal resources. But there’s more. At the beginning they all receive a wristband that is €02.000 is worth. By playing games, participants can win but also lose wristbands. And then something else. When someone leaves, they can pass on their wristband. So it’s helpful to be kind to each other.
