Under great interest from the press, Orange fans and other enthusiastic spectators, Crown Princess Amalia has today, Wednesday December 8 (a day after her 18th anniversary) took a seat in the Council of State. She can now officially take over the crown from her father.

The Princess of Orange was solemnly ushered in by His Majesty the King, President of the Council of State, and by her mother Her Majesty Queen Máxima. The extraordinary meeting took place in the Ballroom of Kneuterdijk Palace. Due to the renovation of the Binnenhof, the extraordinary meeting could not take place in the Full Council Chamber of the Council of State.

According to the law King Willem-Alexander’s eldest daughter may officially take over the crown from her father since yesterday. Crown Princess Amalia was honoured, although she said that she still has a lot to learn, but that she will do everything she can to try to be a good student.

After the ceremony, the French garden of Kneuterdijk Palace by the Princess of Orange still symbolically planted a royal lime.
