A 22-year-old man was arrested early this week in Zaandam for attempted robbery of a taxi driver. At the threat of a knife, he tried to get money from him. The victim suffered minor injuries.

In the night from Sunday to Monday around 00.00 hours, the driver left for Zaandam to pick up a customer for a ride to Amsterdam, the police reported. The man got in at the agreed location. After some confusion about the destination, he took out a knife and threatened the driver. He shouted that he needed money.

Shocked, the driver would have parked the car and asked the man to leave. However, the man continued to threaten and made stabbing movements at the taxi driver. With minor injuries, the victim eventually managed to get out of the car and run away.

Chasing The suspect left him did not go and ran after him. Thanks to the help of a scooter rider who was driving on a nearby bicycle path, the driver eventually managed to escape the man. The police were alerted and after a search with the help of the dog handler, the suspect was found in the bushes. He was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning. Victim support has been called in for the victim and the woman who offered him help. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
