As of Monday, 30 August 2021 the municipality will start mowing the grassy embankments and deepening the ditches, canals and waterways throughout the city. The work will make sure water can continue to flow freely, excess water can be drained and the quality of the water can be guaranteed. The work will take place in autumn.
The grass will be mowed with large tractors with mowers from the embankments. From the water the municipality will use mowing boats. While deepening the waterways from the water the municipality will remove plants, duckweed and rubbish so that the water can flow freely again.
Plant residuesThe plant residues which are fished out of the water will be laid on the embankments to dry. They will then be delivered to a company to be turned into compost.
Mowing timeAutumn is the best time of the year to mow the embankments and deepen the waterways. By this point the plants have already dispersed their seeds, there are no longer any brooding birds, and insects and amphibians are not yet in hibernation.
Small boats and other itemsThe municipality requests that residents who have small boats or other items in the water to remove them during this period while work is being carried out. This way nothing will get in the way of the work and valuable items will not get damaged.
