On Monday, 5 September 2022 the municipality will begin mowing the grassy embankments. It will also remove rubbish and plants from ditches, canals and other waterways throughout the city. The work will make sure water can continue to flow freely and excess water can be drained. This is important in order to guarantee the quality of the water. The work will take place in autumn.

The grass will be mowed with large tractors with cutter bars from the embankments. From the water the municipality will use mowing boats. While deepening the waterways from the water the municipality will remove plants, duckweed and rubbish so that the water can flow freely again.

Plant residuesThe municipality will lay the plant residues from the water on the embankment to dry. The drying process takes a few days. Afterwards it will deliver the plant residues to a company to be turned into compost.

Mowing time Autumn is the best time of year to mow the embankments and deepen the waterways. By this point the plants have already dispersed their seeds, there are no longer any brooding birds, and insects and amphibians are not yet in hibernation.

Small boats and other itemsThe municipality requests that residents who have small boats or other items in the water to remove them during this period while work is being carried out. This way nothing will get in the way of the work and valuable items will not get damaged.
